Professor Rosemary Salomone’s article, Rights and Wrongs in the Debate over Single-Sex Schooling, has been published in the Boston University Law Review as part of a symposium held in October 2012 on journalist Hanna Rosin’s book, The End of Men: And the Rise of Women. The article updates Professor Salomone’s book, Same, Different, Equal: Rethinking Single-Sex Schooling (Yale University Press, 2003), addressing recent legal challenges brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and the questionable research findings on which those challenges rely. While debunking brain research rationales on hard-wired sex differences, it presents legal and policy arguments and empirical evidence supporting single-sex schooling from a global perspective especially with regard to certain populations of at-risk students both in the United States and abroad.
