Perino Presents Paper at National Business Law Scholars Conference

On Thursday, June 4, Professor Michael Perino presented his paper Is the Price Right? An Empirical Study of Fee-Setting in mpSecurities Class Actions (co-authored with Lynn A. Baker and Charles Silver) at the National Business Law Scholars Conference held at Seton Hall Law School. The paper will be published this fall in the Columbia Law Review.

Goldweber Presents on Financial Abuse of the Elderly at NYC Elder Abuse Conference

Professor Ann Goldweber presented on a panel at the NYC Elder Abuse Conference, co-sponsored by St. John’s University goldweberSchool of Law, NYC Department for the Aging, and NYC Human Resources Administration, among others, on June 3, 2015.  The panel was entitled “Prosecuting Fraud and Neglect” and Professor Goldweber presented on financial abuse of the elderly and civil legal remedies available to victims.  Also presenting on the panel were Kristen Kane, Chief of the Elder Fraud Unit at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office and Arlene Markarian, Bureau Chief of the Domestic Violence Bureau/Elder Abuse Unit at the King’s County District Attorney’s Office.

Boyle Presents at Empire State Legal Writing Conference

Professor Robin Boyle presented at a the Fifth Annual Empire State Legal Writing Conference held May 29th at Syracuse University BoyleCollege of Law. The topic of her workshop was “Lessons from Academic Support,” in which she applied ASP concepts to legal writing pedagogy. In addition, she introduced the keynote speaker of the conference. Prof. Boyle is a founding member of the annual Empire State LW conferences and has participated on the Program Committee since its inception.

Sovern Presents St. John’s Arbitration Study at American Council on Consumer Interests Annual Conference

On May 22, Professor Jeff Sovern presented a paper he co-authored with Professors Elayne Sovern Two[2]Greenberg, Paul Kirgis, and Yuxiang Liu at the American Council on Consumer Interests, “‘Whimsy Little Contracts’ with Unexpected Consequences: An Empirical Analysis of Consumer Understanding of Arbitration Agreements.”
