Nuremberg’s Palace of Justice, the historic Nazi war crimes trial site. The program, cosponsored by Creighton University School of Law and the California Judges Association, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the 1945-1946 international trial of the principal Nazi war criminals. Professor Barrett spoke about Courtroom 600 itself, including its history before 1945, its selection by the Allies, its preparation, and the war crimes trials. Other speakers included John B. Emerson, U.S. Ambassador to Germany, and Dr. Christoph Safferling, F.A.U.-Erlangen University.
Earlier that week, also in Nuremberg, Professor Barrett spoke to California judges following a screening of the film, Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today, and he taught a class in Creighton’s summer law school program, “From Nuremberg to The Hague.”
Professor Barrett, biographer of U.S. Supreme Court Justice and Nuremberg chief prosecutor Robert H. Jackson (1892-1954) and writer of The Jackson List, is an expert on Justice Jackson, the Nuremberg trials and their legacies. He regularly teaches, speaks and writes about Nuremberg, Jackson and related topics throughout the U.S. and internationally.
